Professor Wojciech Fendler, MD, PhD, has assumed the position of Co-Chair of the Prix Galien Poland Award Committee. He will serve in this role jointly with Professor CezarySzczylik, MD, PhD.

(Warsaw, 11 January 2026) Professor Wojciech Fendler, MD, PhD, President of the Medical Research Agency of Poland, has been appointed Co-Chair of the Prix Galien Poland Award Committee. He will share this responsibility with the current Chair, Professor Cezary Szczylik, MD, PhD. This appointment reflects the alignment of the Prix Galien Poland Award Committee with the international governance model of the Galien Foundation.

Professor Wojciech Fendler, MD, PhD, is a distinguished physician-scientist and healthcare leader. He earned his medical degree from the Medical University of Łódź in 2007 and completed his doctoral training in 2011, followed by post-doctoral research focused on the pathogenesis and biomarkers of monogenic diabetes. In 2020, he was appointed Professor of Medical Sciences.


His research interests include the epidemiology and molecular biology of monogenic diabetes, as well as the clinical application of circulating microRNAs in oncology and radiotherapy. Collaborative projects with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School resulted in the commercialization of a diagnostic test for ovarian cancer and multiple patent filings.


Professor Fendler has authored several hundred peer-reviewed publications in leading scientific journals, including Diabetes Care, Science Translational Medicine, Nature Communications, and Diabetologia. He has served as principal investigator or scientific supervisor for more than 25 nationally and European-funded research projects and is the recipient of numerous prestigious scientific awards and fellowships, including the National Science Centre Award in Life Sciences - the only physician to have received this distinction to date. Since July 2024, he has served as President of the Medical Research Agency of Poland.
